Synology recently launced a new model in their business class network attached storage division, namely the 2-bay DS712+. Over the last week we took the time to play around a bit with this particular model and let you know how it handled the stress tests.
AMD Radeon™ HD 6990M Mobile Graphics Processor
Recently, AMD have launched their new graphics processor. The
AMD Radeon™ HD 6990M

This is currently the most powerful graphics processor on the planet!
- Engine clock speed: 715 MHz
- Processing power (single precision): 1.6 TeraFLOPS
- Polygon throughput: 715M polygons/sec
- Data fetch rate (32-bit): 160 billion fetches/sec
- Texel fill rate (bilinear filtered): 40 Gigatexels/sec
- Pixel fill rate: 22.88 Gigapixels/sec
- Anti-aliased pixel fill rate: 91.52 Gigasamples/sec
- Memory clock speed: 900 MHz
- Memory data rate: 3.6 Gbps
- Memory bandwidth: 115.2 GB/sec
All this means you can play the best games the way they were meant to be played. In ultimate HIGH DEFINITION!
Seamless games and superior frame rates mean the best gaming. All this power and performance, and it can all be in a laptop or notebook. PORTABLE POWER!
The AMD Radeon HD 6990M also represents a significant upgrade from AMD’s current gaming notebook graphics, the AMD Radeon HD 6970M, raising the bar from both a performance and image quality. With support for DirectX® 11, users of the new chip can expect superior image quality, which gives gamers every advantage their desktop computers once enjoyed exclusively on a notebook.
As you probably guessed, it is still power hungry and some of the best notebook will last about 4 hours with this new chip. But its more than worth it for the performance you get back. However, there is a price to pay, and quite a large one at that. The latest Alienware gaming Laptop, the M18x starts at over £2000 with this new graphics chip. Which is a steep price for most people, but if you have the cash, its well worth splashing out on.
Overall its a dream for people who want some portable power with them, with its high engine clock, and latest support for all the new games and viewing experiences. Making it the best out there in this vast universe. The only thing that drags it back to earth is the price and the power consumption, even though it uses nowhere near as much as a desktop, its still a lot for a laptop. As most last for 7-8 hours, with this new chip, they struggle to last 4 hours. And the price, just the chip will be nearly as much as the whole card for the desktop. Which is a steep price to pay but well worth it for the ultimate gamers rig.
MSI Unveils the N560GTX Twin Frozr II Series Graphics Cards
MSI the renowned graphics card manufacturer unveiled its newest member of the Twin Frozr II series which takes advantage of NVIDIA's GeForce GTX560 graphics core and 1GB of GDDR5 high speed memory.
The N560GTX features high end military class II components which gives you outstanding quality and stability. This makes the overclocking potential of the N560GTX superbly impressive. With MSI's Afterburner overclocking utility you can increase the N560GTX's performance by up to 27%! And even when running under full load core temperatures remain under 70°C and the noise levels are kept in check at 30dB.
Cooling wise the N560GTX uses the exclusive Twin Frozr II cooling system with a copper base and nickel plated foundation absorbing heat from the chipset. The SuperPipe technology then dissipates the acquired heat through cooling fins which are chilled by two 8CM temperature control fans.
