Review – Clickfree C2N

The Clickfree C2N is a networked, easy to use home backup hard disk. It comes in four sizes, 250GB, 320GB, 500GB, and 640GB.  All you have to do is connect it to a computer, agree to some terms and hit go! All your data will be backed up there and then. There is no messing about with settings, and no installing of any software. It’s all taken care of by the drive itself.

C2N

The C2N has its Pro’s and it’s Con’s. One of its many pro’s is that you can plug it into a Computer/Mac or laptop, backup your data, and unplug it. Then go to another computer and plug it in and back that one up. All the data from the separate computers will be sorted so that you can browse the data individually and the data won’t be mixed up. This also allows you to restore the files easily if they get deleted, so that you’re not digging around the drive for your files that are mixed in with other computers files.

Another Great feature unique to the C2N is their BackupLink™ software, which means even if the computer is not plugged into the drive; it will back it up over your home network. This is an excellent feature of the drive, though I have been having problems getting this to work due to home router problems, but problems like this are easily solved through the help and support given on Clickfree’s website.*

It isn’t a problem if you just want to backup certain files, before the backup starts there is an option for you to select what files you would like to sync. Unfortunately the quick start guide does not tell you this, so it might be a problem if you have more data than the hard drive can take.

The C2N can be plugged in to as many computers and laptops as you want until the drive is full. And don’t worry if you have a Mac, the drive is cross compatible with Mac’s and PC’s.

From the C2N’s Backup software you can easily post you photos to Facebook, MySpace, and Flickr, straight from the drive itself, as well as being able to E-mail them.

The options menu includes a number of useful features and tools for you to use. Including:

  1. 256 bit Hardware-Accelerated drive encryption
  2. IPod/IPhone music import feature
  3. Email attachment extraction and backup
  4. CD and DVD backup – For those important file you may want to backup multiple times

The design of the drive looks great, and it doesn’t look out of place on your desk.

Taking everything into consideration, I think that the Clickfree C2N does what it says on the tin, and does it extremely well, and in my opinion better than any other device in its category. It’s well worth the money and it looks great.

*update: The Backuplink™ software started to work between vista and windows 7 automaticaly, but is still a bit funny with Windows XP over the network, but the cable backup works fine.
